Events, holidays, parties… all the things with treats and snacks. With fall showing up at our doorsteps, Halloween is quickly approaching. My mind has been on decorating. My favorite to decorate with are pumpkins. While they are all beautiful, my mind is focused is on displaying a teal pumpkin for my trick or treaters Teal? you ask!? Let me explain.
My daughter has a milk protein and soy intolerance. While she can now tolerate some levels of milk and soy, when she was an infant through around 2.5 / 3 years old, it was an allergy. It was hard to see her in discomfort, pain, and being ill from even just a small amount of milk or soy. As diligent as I was about checking labels, every now and then, something would sneak in unexpected; a treat someone unknowingly handed her, something she grabbed off someone else’s plate. I quickly became thankful her allergy wasn’t life threatening.
I know many other families have food allergies that are life threatening. While I cannot fully understand, however my personal glimpse into how ill a food can make my daughter gave me pause in selecting treats to share at Halloween. We still typically offer juice boxes, however have added a non food item as well. Last year, I gave out packs of wipe clean cards. I placed 5 wipe clean cards plus a dry erase marker in a ziplock baggie! Simple, easy, and safe for all!
If you are looking for an alternative non food item, check these out!
